The Bowls North Harbour 2019 – 2020 1 -5 Year Twilight Interclub kicked off on Monday 11th November.
10 Clubs have teams entered and there are three sections played over 5 weeks with the final just prior to Christmas. In a cruel twist of fate (or maybe a sinister plan), our two Mairangi Bay teams were drawn in the same division and had to play each other in the first round. This draw means that only one of our two teams will be able to progress to the final.
The play on the first night was yet another demonstration of the strength of Junior bowling at Mairangi Bay and although the result at the end of the night went in favour of the BLUE team, the score cards show that the GREEN team, who have 5 of their members either year 1 or year 2 players, were competitive in all the disciplines.
In the pairs, the GREEN team, of Rick Dixon and Beth Drummond held the BLUE team, Allan Langley and Gaye Horne, to 10 points all after 10 of the 15 ends. And after 9 ends of the triples, the GREEN team of John McConachie, Jim Centre and Rosemary Nicol, lead the BLUE team, Garth Partridge, Bob Mullen and Louise Ball, by 10 points to 9. The experience gained by playing in these events cannot be under estimated and we congratulate all the newer bowlers who support this competition and have allowed our club to enter two teams: Mairangi Bay is the only North Harbour club to have two teams entered.
Many thanks to all who showed up early to mark and prepare the greens and to the support team of Colleen Rice and David Pearse. Thanks also to the members who turned up to support the junior bowlers.
The next round is on Monday 18th November with play starting at 5:30 at the Milford bowling club. The BLUE team takes on Milford and the GREEN team plays Browns Bay.
