This year saw our Founders Tournament run for the 47th year. Over the years the format has varied from a men only Fours tournament held over 3 days, to Triples then back to Fours & has more recently returned to Triples and run as a 2 day Any Combination tournament.

This year the Greenwich Gardens Founders Triples tournament was held over two hot and sunny days on February 15 and 16.  A very strong field of 24 teams were entered, resulting in some hard fought battles. Qualifiers for the main event were decided after the first day’s play. They were the teams of Bryan Chapman, Kevin Sturgeon, Bevan Smith, Kevin Cameron, Phill Chisholm, Theresa Rogers, Peter Orgias and Ian Coombe. These 8 played a winners versus winners competition on the second day.

Winners of the Greenwich Gardens Founders Triples for 2024 were Bevan Smith, Chris Taylor, and Steve Hoeft with the team of Phill Chisholm, Evan Thomas, and Grant Keats runners up.

Anna Wilson, Sales Manager for both Greenwich Gardens and The Orchards villages was on hand to present the prizes.  Mairangi Bay Bowling club is indebted to Greenwich Gardens for their continuing support and generous sponsorship.

Winners of the plate event were Leon Wech, Bevyn  Darlington and Mike Thomas, the only 4winners  on the day.

Second place with 3 wins, 32 ends and 73 points were Elaine and Bruce McClintock with Bart Robertson.

Third place went to John Miles, John Lindsay, and David Lloydd with 3 wins, 32 ends & 58 points.

In fourth place were Jan Gledhill, Sheryl Wellington, and Lorna Donald with 3 wins and 29 ends.

Good to see Sheryl back on the bowling green. Also very good to see was a surprise visitor in the form of David Pearse who was looking really good. Hopefully he will become a more regular visitor.

A big thank you to all who helped make the tournament a success, and particularly to Jo and Gaye, who provided the nibbles enjoyed at Prize Giving. They were delicious & much appreciated
