On Saturday 5th September, the Saturday Haggle restarts with a restricted format to ensure social distancing. Play commences at 12 noon.

The Thursday competition is also in a new format while level 2 restrictions apply and there are proximity constraints. The first of the new Bubble Pairs was completed on Thursday 3rd September, with one competition in the morning and a separate competition, with a completely new field, in the afternoon. There are 6 rinks available and players are in draw pairs with 3 “bubbles”. There are 4 teams in each bubble and 3 games of 8 ends are played. Each bubble has a winner and a runner up prize and there is a lucky dip prize. The sheets are up (one for the morning and one for the afternoon) for Thursday 10th September and are almost full, so if you wish to play, don’t delay.

The new format on Thursday 3rd Sept was extremely well received and ran smoothly. Thanks to David Pearse and Leon Wech.

The morning games start at 9:00am and the afternoon games start at 1:00pm. This allows the morning players to leave and the afternoon players to arrive without them needing to meet. The club house facilities are not available during the day, however the bar is open from 4:00pm and the morning players, as well as other club members and guests are invited back from 4pm to socialise. Appropriate social distancing of course.

There were many comments about how good it was to be able to play bowls again and to be reacquainted with the good bunch of members that we enjoy at Mairangi Bay. As always, if you are feeling unwell, stay home and stay safe, otherwise, come on down.
