The Grove Orewa Bowls North Harbour Women’s singles and Men’s pairs were held over the weekend.  The weather was fine but with strong winds.

The women were playing at Mairangi Bay on Saturday and with the finals at Birkenhead on Sunday.

Another strong turnout of Mairangi women this weekend with seven entries in a field of twenty eight:
Colleen Rice
Glenda Rountree
Julie Chhour
Gaye Horne
Judi Farkash
Elaine McClintock
Theresa Rogers.

After section play Gaye Horne, Elaine McClintock and Theresa Rogers all had three wins taking them to post section on Sunday.  In the last game of section play Colleen Rice played Connie Mathieson from Birkenhead. Both had two wins with the winner going on to post section.  Colleen started well but Connie slowly came back to take the win 21-17.

Finals day.
In the quarter finals Connie Mathieson had the bye.  Judy Smith from Manly beat Gaye Horne 21-19 in a close-fought game with Gaye leading most of the game.  Sharon Parker from Hellensville beat Wendy Jensen 21-13.  Theresa Rogers started well and had a good win over Elaine McClintock 21-10.

Semi-finals.
Judy Smith beat Connie Mathieson 21-6.
Theresa Rogers with another good start beat Sharon Parker 21-9.

The Final.
This time Theresa started slowly against Judy Smith, struggling with her line, she managed to find her rhythm and slowly clawed back the lead to win 21-17.

A fantastic result for Theresa and Mairangi Bay.  This was Theresa’s 11th Centre title and her first in the singles.

In the Men’s Pairs we had two teams from Mairangi Bay.
Peter Orgias and Allan Langley.
David Payne and Phill Chisholm.

They played at Manly but unfortunately they found their opponents were better on the day.  Peter and Allan had one win out of their three games and David and Phill lost their first two games and did not play their third.

The men’s final was played between Walter Howden and Murray Mathieson from Takapuna against Gordon Smith and Grant Goodwin from Riverhead.  Walter and Murray came out the winners 16-13.
