On Sunday, the last of the Winter 1-8 fours the Sorrill cup was held at Browns Bay.

We had two teams entered once again.

Flora Macdonald, Rosemary Nicol, Jodie Cottier and Julie Chhour.

Glyn Taylor, Michael Thomas, Graeme Storey and Annie McGrath.

Please find reports from Flora and Rosemary as well as Glyn Taylor.

Sorrill Report.

Our team of Jodie, Julie, Rosemary and Flora enjoyed a slightly warmer day than at Manly the previous week and tolerated the few showers. We could have all played more consistently, but were really happy with some of our spectacular shots. Although losing to Orewa in the first game 12-5, we really enjoyed our second game against Browns Bay winning 18-5. The afternoon was forgettable. We were outplayed by another Browns Bay team losing 17-2 and lost our final game against Hobsonville 14-6, who were eventually placed 3rd.

All in all, we really enjoyed our team spirit, supporting each other well throughout the day.

————————–

The day got off to a cold and wet start but happily without wind.

Our first game against Browns Bay had us trailing after the first two ends but we settled into the game and after clawing back the deficit secured a narrow 7-6 win and importantly 6 of the 10 ends.

The second game was also against a Browns Bay team. Again we dropped the first end and game 2 followed the same cut and thrust of game 1. We again secured a narrow 8-7 win also with 6 ends.

After lunch we faced off against a team from Hobsonville who gave us a lesson in how to bowl as a team. No matter what we did they dominated the game and deserved their win. If you are interested in the score all I can say is that we got some points but they got lots.

The last game was also against a Hobsonville team. We were still licking our wounds after game 3 and dropped the first two ends but as in games 1 and 2,

the team rallied and went into the last end with a 3 shot lead. Unfortunately after the 2 leads and the 2 two’s had played our 3 shot advantage had gone. Thankfully Mike’s second bowl finished as second shot and we were back in the game. My first bowl sat alongside Mike’s and their skip’s last bowl slipped harmlessly by the head and my last bowl wasn’t required.

We finished the day with 3 wins and 20 ends.

Final results were Hobsonville finishing in 3rd place with 3 wins and 26 ends.

2nd place went to Mahurangi with 4 wins and the winners were Orewa with 4 wins and 1 more end than Mahurangi.

All in all a good but trying day of bowls where we worked hard to pull back early deficits and never dominated our games but showed plenty of tenacity.

Cheers Glyn

Well done to both our teams, these tournaments are very competitive, and you need things to go your way on the day.

Thanks to all the supporters who braved the conditions.

2nd were Mahurangi with Manly 3rd.

Both Orewa and Mahurangi had 4 wins, and also had the same amount of ends with Orewa winning with a+1 differential.
