The NHB Men’s singles and the Women’s pairs were held on the weekend.
The women played at Mairangi Bay on Saturday and Takapuna on the Sunday.
The men played at various venues on Saturday with the finals at Takapuna on Sunday.
We had four men entered in the singles.
David Payne, started off with an excellent win defeating Colin Rogan first up 21-14. He then lost to Dean McMurchy from Beachaven, who went on to win the final.
He then had a close loss to Brian Wilson of Birkenhead 18-21.
Phil Chisolm, lost his first game to Lloyd Sinton 13-16, he won his next game but lost his last game to Steve Cox from Riverhead.
Barry Baillie won his first game 17-14, then lost to David Eades 16-21 and then beat Jerry Belcher from Birkenhead in a close game 21-20.
Barry finished second in a tough section, a very good achievement.
Gerry Strydom lost his first game 20-21, his second game also a close loss 18-21 and he lost his last game to Andy Dorrance.
Unfortunately our players did not qualify for post section finals.
The final was won by Dean McMurchy from Beachaven defeating Matt Berry from Browns Bay 21-10.
In the women’s pairs we had five teams entered.
Glenda Rountree and Judi Farkash won their first two games but lost their last game to Leeane Poulson and Robyne Walker 13-17.
They finished second in their section.
Rosemary Nicol and Jodie Cottier lost their first game to Orewa but had two good wins to top their section on differential.
Sheryl Wellington and Theresa Rogers won their first and second games but lost their third to Jacqui Belcher and Loz Croot 13-14 in a very close game.
They finished second in their section.
Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice drew their first game, won their second and then had a great win over Wendy Jensen and Jeni Hart to top their section.
Julie and Muy Chhour, daughter and mum, lost their first game and then had a narrow loss against a strong Manly side, Maureen Howden and Jan Harrison 12-13.
They did not play their last game, as neither team could qualify.
Quarter-finals;
Rosemary and Jodie had a very good win beating Jamie Chen and Judy Smith 19-8.
Jan and Colleen were pipped on the post 15-16 by Maureen Howden and Jan Harrison.
Semi-finals;
Rosemary and Jodie lost to Lisa Dickson and Sarah Childs from Takapuna 8-18.
What an excellent performance by these two, well done!!
Final, Lisa and Sarah, Takapuna defeated Maureen and Jan, Manly 18-15 in a very close final.
