I already had the cancellation email written before I went to bed on Wednesday night but despite a few worrisome clouds & a light sprinkling of rain, we got through the day and in fact finished playing in sunshine, albeit with a strong crosswind.
With 26 teams entered from clubs across North Harbour there was some quite stiff competition vying for the 30 half hams on offer. Plus 2 hams as raffles. All thanks to the generous sponsorship of John Bailley from Milford Asset Management.
Winners on Mayfair Green with 4 wins & 25 ends were Theresa Rogers, David Eades & Murray Radojkovich. In second place on Mayfair with 4 wins & 23 ends were David Payne, Gordon Jenkins & Colleen Rice. 3rd place on Mayfair went to Leon Wech, Judi Farkash & Bevyn Darlington with 3 wins 27 ends & 59 points.
Winners on Knightsbridge were Evan Thomas, Ian Hardy & Connie Mathieson, the only 4 winner on this green. Second place went to Gerry Strydom, Stuart MacKay & Louise Ball with 3 wins, 29 ends. In 3rd place on Knightsbridge were Frankie Lim, Esther Eu & Jamie Chen with 3 wins, 28 ends 47.
There were 3 teams in contention for next overall. All with 3 wins 27 ends & points ranging from 48 to 42 but the ham went to Alwine & Ray Barlow & Dennis Brown as they had the 48 points.
The Club has a policy of spreading the prize money across as wide a spread of teams as possible, hence we have a best 2 winner prize & a one winner in an effort to encourage participation from all members.
The best 2 winner team was Garry Banks, Barry McCrystal & Rosemary Nicol with 2 wins 17 ends & 31 points.
The team with the best & only 1 win was Steve McGregor with Christine & Joe Tordeich with 9 ends & 14 points. Thank you, Steve for inviting a couple of new Juniors to play. They went home with a ham each which is more than some of the stronger rated teams were able to manage.
Lucky draw went to John Gledhill, Glyn Taylor & Jane MacKay.
Our regular Milford Asset Management person, John Bailley was unable to be present (there was some mention of a honeymoon). We were very happy to welcome both Claire Sutton & Julian Hannah, both Financial Advisors with Milford Asset Management who presented the hams to the winning teams.
Our grateful thanks go to Milford Asset Management for their generous sponsorship without which we would not have such a successful tournament.
Thank you also to Club Members who helped throughout the day in setting up the greens (after David LLoydd had squeegeed them), doing the raffle, the bar & ensuring the kitchen ran smoothly. A visiting team member was most impressed to see men in the kitchen. Obviously a novelty at her club!! Thank you also to Bruce Aley who is responsible for ordering & overseeing the delivery of all our hams.
