The club Mixed 2x4x2 Championship pairs were held over the weekend.
The heavy rain over the previous days had left the grass greens waterlogged so the decision was made to play on the carpet green.
We had 22 teams entered which was an amazing turnout but too many to all play on the carpet green at once.
So a draw was made for 12 teams to play on Saturday and 10 teams on Sunday.
Unfortunately this decision meant there would be no haggle.
With the weather looking like it was starting to change to Autumn mode and also that we needed to finish the event in time for the Centre champ of champ event the match committee decided for a top eight to qualify event.
The number of wins and the differential would determine the qualifiers.
We were able to complete both days successfully although we did have a heavy downpour late on Sunday but after a 20 minute break we were able to complete all games.
The top eight qualifiers in 1-8 in finishing order were:
Graeme Storey and Flora Macdonald, Elaine McClintock and Leon Wech, David Payne and Jodie Cottier, Allan Langley and Sheryl Wellington (last years winners). They all had three wins.
Next were: Brian Rogers and Irene Donaldson, Barry Baillie and Muy Chhour, Gerry Strydom and Jo Baxter, John Gledhill and Lorna Donald. All having two wins.
The most difficult job was next to find a date or combination of dates to finish the event.
Lots of thank you’s, Gerd for running the event, Gerd and Sheryl doing the draw, Gerd and some other helpers doing the tea.
Leon on Sarturday and those that set up on Sunday. Russell and Colleen on the bar. Phil for cleaning the carpet on both days. All that put the gear away on both days of which there were a few.
All much appreciated.
The first round of Post section quarter finals was played this morning.
The top qualifier Graeme/Flora played the bottom qualifier John/Lorna.
It went to the wire. Last end Graeme/Flora lead 11-9, final bowl to come from Flora, John/Lorna are holding three shots for the win.
In came Flora with a great weighted shot to take out two shots, to go down one on the end but winning the game 11-10.
Well done to them.
Post section play will continue on Anzac Monday 27th.
