The Champ of Champ finals continued over the weekend with the men and women’s triples.
Round one was played at Manly on Saturday with finals at Orewa on Sunday.
It was another beautifully fine and calm weekend.
Our women’s team was Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice.
They had a bye in their first round.
They went straight to a quarter-final on Sunday where they played Manly and came out the winners 15-9.
In their semi-final they defeated Hellensville 19-11 in another strong performance.
In the final they were up against a strong younger Hobsonville team.
The Hobsonville team played very well but the experience of the Mairangi Bay team came to the fore to nail a 13-11 win in a close game.
Well done Sheryl, Jan and Colleen.
They will now represent Bowls North Harbour in the National Champ of Champs at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitan club on Friday 28th-30th August.
Unfortunately we did not have a team in the men’s event with Ian Coombe away and subsequently injured and John Valentine having some surgery.
Under the rules, you can only substitute one player of a team and not two. So this left Brian Rogers out on a limb. Next year Brian.
The men’s final was won by the very experienced Browns Bay team of Neil Fisher, Colin Rogan and John Walker over the Manly team of Andy Dorrance, Shaun Goldsbury and Matt Higginson.
