The sky was heavy, the wind was fairly wild, and daylight saving had just kicked in – but a good group of volunteers, aka Alan Daniel’s conscripts, turned up ready to give prospective new members the opportunity to have a go at lawn bowls on our carpet green.

Club volunteers were each assigned a task, whether it was catering, welcoming and providing information, or tutoring our prospective bowlers. Visitors arrived in small groups and, under the guidance of their tutors, quickly began to improve their bowling skills. The club members helped the visitors choose suitable sized bowls and the ‘bias’ of the bowl was explained. Contact details were recorded and perhaps we will see some new members.

Although a few bouts of swirling drizzle did its best to dampen the players, everyone remained enthusiastic and the event went off very well.

The sausages were excellent and much appreciated by both volunteers and guests, hopefully, if the calendar allows, we can repeat the event in a few months time.
