BNH Champ of Champ events started over the weekend with the Men’s and Women’s singles.
These COC events are all knockout games, lose and your gone!!
Representing Mairangi Bay in the women’s singles, Colleen Rice drew Joanne Staines from Sunnybrae. In a tight match Colleen was holding a small lead but she then dropped a four going down 20-21.
So close and could have easily gone the other way.
The women’s final was won by Lisa Dickson from Takapuna over Wendy Jensen from Birkenhead 21-11.
Michael Thomas was our representative in the men’s event.
He had a bye in round 1 and in round 2 he drew Dean McMurchy a very strong singles player from Beachaven.
Michael stayed in the game but Dean ran out the winner 21-16. Another very strong performance for Michael this season.
Dean went onto the semi-final losing to Colin Rogan.
Colin went on to win a hard fought final 21-19 against Nick Thompson from Birkenhead, Colin winning his 40th harbour title, very impressive.
The BNH 1-5 A/C pairs were also played over the weekend.
We had only the one team entered: Barry Baillie and Robyn Pittams.
They started well beating a Milford side 15-11.
In their next game they lost to Steve Card and Nigel Sanderson from Wellsford 10-20.
In their final section game they beat a strong Milford side of Stacey McDonald and Hayden Wilkinson 15-11.
That meant three teams in their section had two wins each and it came down to differential to determine the top qualifier.
Unfortunately Barry and Robyn finished third on that basis.
Still a very good effort.
The final was won by Grant Beach and Stephen Thom from Hobsonville beating Richard Coles and Shaun Goldsbury from Manly 16-9.
