The BNH men’s Dick Bree triples and the women’s triples were played over the weekend.

We only had one team entered in the men’s Dick Bree triples:

David Payne, Bruce McClintock and Gordon Jenkins.

Playing at Birkenhead, they had three strong wins to top their section.

They then had to play a fourth game, the first round of finals against a very strong Birkenhead team.

They went down 23-12 to the Birkenhead team who went on to the semi-finals losing to the eventual winners.

The winners of the final were a Takapuna team of Graham Skellern, John Whiteford and Ian Hardy.

The women played at Browns Bay.

We had four teams entered out a total of 20 teams.

Glenda Rountree, Judi Farkash and Joy Watkinson lost their first game to a very strong Birkenhead team but then won their next two games.

They finished second in their section with only the winners going through.

Elaine McClintock, Kerin Roberts and Theresa Rogers had three good wins. They beat a strong Manly team and also Millie Nathans Birkenhead team by one point.

They topped their section.

Julie Chhour, Muy Chhour and Jodie Cottier, had a great win against another strong Birkenhead team in their first game. That Birkenhead side went on the  semi-finals.

They then lost to a good Takapuna team and then beat Mahurangi East in their last game.

They finished third in their section with three teams having two wins and it all came down to the shot differential for who topped the section.

Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice had three good wins to top their section.

Three teams were given byes for the first round of finals.

Sheryl’s team, did not get the bye and played Birkenhead, going down 15-17 in a close game.

In the semi-final, Elaine’s team played the same Birkenhead team winning in a close game 16-14.

They then played Takapuna in the final, going down 16-12. This was a top effort.

Although entries were low, the strength of a number of teams was certainly up there and all four of our teams performed creditably.
