The final Centre Champ of Champ event was held over the weekend with the Men’s and Women’s 1-5 singles.

The women played at Takapuna on Saturday and the men at Mairangi Bay. With finals at Takapuna on Sunday.

Barry Baillie was our representative in the men, he had a bye in the first round.  In the quarter-final he played Trevor Minty from Wellsford.  It was a close game, with Barry playing some great bowls, but Trevor played the better bowls in the last two ends to take the win 21-18.

Trevor went on to the final, going down 21-10 to Clinton Smith 21-10.(see photo below)

Julie Chhour was our representative in the women.
Julie started well defeating Kerryn Reddy from Manly 21-6 in round 1.
In her quarter-final she defeated a strong Milford player in Stacey Macdonald 21-10.

Sunday.  Could Julie continue the strong momentum from Saturday, YES she could!!

In the semi-final she was up against Deanne Bronlund from Hobsonville, the winner of the 1-5 Centre singles  Again Julie started well, playing controlled draw bowls which put her opponent under pressure.  Julie taking the win 21-13.

The final. Julie was up against Beryl Truebody from Orewa who beat the favourite Jeni Hart from Takapuna 21-19 in the other semi-final.  Nothing was going to stop Julie now, she kept her composure for another imposing win 21-13.(see photo below)

WELL DONE JULIE, and still another year left in the 1-5’s.
