The national Champion of Champions Women’s Fours were played over the weekend in Hastings.
Our team was Jan Gledhill, Lorna Donald, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers. Manager, Coach, Director and Supporter was Sheryl Wellington.
It was a frustrating weekend for our Mairangi Bay team, they lost their first in a close game against Poverty Bay 14-16. Poverty Bay went on to qualify third. They then won their quarter final but lost their semi-final.
Mairangi Bay had a bye in the second round. In their third round they played Te Rangi going down 7-24. Now where’s Ta Arangi I hear you ask? They are from Invercargill, so had a long way to travel. Te Rangi, qualified top with three wins out of three.
Mairangi Bay then had another bye in round four and then did not play their next two games, because neither they or their opponents could get three wins.
Te Rangi, however won their quarter-final then their semi-final before defeating Many Boyd’s Elmwood Park team 17-16 in a really close and tense final.
Hopefully more success for our team in the Women’s COC Triples which is being held on August 28th to 30th at Pukekohe.
