This week, Mairangi Bay Bowling Club lost one of it most hard-working club members who was also  a  Life Member.

David Pearse sadly passed away on Monday.

David was originally drawn to bowls through Indoor bowls which he played for many years. He joined MBBC in  September 1990 and although he played bowls for some  years, his attention was soon turned to administration and for many years, he ran the Thursday tournaments, both summer and winter, single-handedly. He also coordinated & ran the Men’s Championship events.

David also served many years on the program committee, setting the program for each season’s  play. His knowledge and experience  were invaluable.

In 2020 David was awarded Life Membership of the Club in recognition of his outstanding contribution over the many years.
He was forced to retire in 2022 when ill health meant he could no longer drive himself to the Club or put in a full day. He moved out to his daughter’s property  just north of Warkworth.  Although he was no longer involved in the day to day activities David maintained an avid interest in the club activities. He was always pleased to hear from Club members & even last weekend his daughter, Amanda read him the weekly mail out. He was always interested to know who was winning our tournaments .

There will be a memorial service for David at some point. Date & time will be published on our website
