A cool breeze made playing conditions slightly tricky for the 54 members who turned out to play in our Ham & Bubbles tournament on Friday December 12.
No danger of heat exhaustion and the coffee & cone van was well patronized. Many thanks to James Dixon from Harcourts Cooper & Co for organizing this for us.
James also provided the very welcome glasses of bubbles we enjoyed at the end of play. Thank you, again James.
Our social evening started off in fine style with easy listening music from Keith Berman and his friends, Shakira, Pete & Ed. They took requests & we were treated to a solo (I can’t call it dance, because he just stood & swayed in his inimitable dancing style) by Ian Coombe to his all time favourite, Hallelujah. Videos available on request!!
The advertised light meal was a veritable feast of chicken, ham, salad & bread rolls, followed by a pineapple cheesecake for dessert. All coordinated & prepared by Jo Baxter & Colleen along with their team of willing helpers – Maureen Davenport, Christine Tordeich, Joy Wilkinson, Rosemary Nicol & Glenda Rountree. Well done ladies!
The Club rooms looked really festive & the meal was superb. A big thank you also to those who helped clean up in the kitchen afterwards. Most notably Barry McCrystal & Jane MacKay. If I’ve missed others, my apologies but your help was most appreciated. As was the work of our bar staff.
There were several 3 winners in our tournament but the best 3 winner & taking home a ham was Sheryl Wellington with 3 wins & 31 points. Other 3 winners & taking home hams were Phyl Humphries, Barry Baillie & John Gledhill (who, as this was his second ham, generously gave his ham to one of the ladies who had forgone the opportunity to win one herself because she worked in the kitchen. Thank you, John!). Margaret O’Carroll, Steve Bartley, Stuart Jamieson & Allan Langley all with 3 wins, won bottles of bubbles. Chocolates went to Bruce McClintock, Joy Finney, Peter Orgias, Louise Ball, Norm Clarke & Stuart MacKay The Lucky draw bottle of bubbles went to Jane MacKay. Two ham raffles were drawn with the first ham going to Murray Radojkovich & the second to Muy.
