Hi Everyone , welcome to my first update for 2021.
So far so good, with only a couple of minor outbreaks of that covid thingy.

More welcomes this month, with Ian McGovern joining us as a year two bowler, welcome Ian.
Also to Hanaan Shahwan, a year three bowler who has joined from Hobsonville, where she currently still remains a member.  Hanaan is also a current squad member of the North Harbour 1-5 Women’s rep squad, welcome Hanaan.

Junior Bowler Achievements.
One item of note I missed last year was the result of the Women’s Club Champ fours, with the team of three Juniors – Gaye Horne, Joy Watkinson and Louise Ball, ably assisted by the vastly experienced Caryl Miles – taking the title. They will now go on to represent the club at the Champ of Champs in May. A great result!

Allan Langley was the lead for the Peter Orgias skipped team that also included Alan Daniels and Kevin Robertson, which took out the Men`s Fours Club Champs.
They also will go onto the Champ of Champs in May.

We had two teams visit Mangawhai on December 27th for their Junior Classic.
Bob Mullen, Rick Dixon, Rick George, Glyn Taylor, and Stuart Mackay Rosemary Nicol, Flora Macdonald, Barry Butcher.
No success on the day, but great to see the year two bowlers getting involved in a great tournament and experiencing the different types of grass greens.  They all enjoyed the day.

Two weekends ago we had four teams competing in the Milford 5000.
The team of David Payne, Gaye Horne and Louise Ball had 3 wins on the first day and qualified in the top section on Sunday playing for the cup.
The teams of Alan Daniels, Mike Wilkinson and Allan Langley, 2 wins.
Garth Partridge, Phil Chisholm and Michael Thomas, 1 win and a draw. Great to see Michael, a first year bowler, playing in this tournament.
Rick Dixon, Theresa Rogers and Rick George, 2 wins.
All qualified for the Plate section.

The Payne team had some close games and ended up with one win in the Cup section.

In the Plate the Daniels team had 3 wins and a draw and ended up third on the day, with a little bit of cash to boot.
The Partridge team had 1 win and two draws.
The Dixon team had 2 wins.
A great tournament, very competitive, and one which I can highly recommend.
This is the last time Alan and Mike can play in this tournament.
The MILFORD 5000 Cup was won by the team from Birkenhead; Gary Wallace, Chad and Millie Nathan, which stopped the run of Auckland teams winning the cup.

Tuition:
Auckland Bowls have on their website some video clips on the basics of lawn bowls.
There are 7 short video’s on the basics of getting started.
This would be of particular interest to Year 1 and 2 bowlers.

Go to aucklandbowls.co.nz, hit the heading ‘getting started’ and then ‘the-basics-of-lawn-bowls’ .

We still have three months of the season to go, so lots of bowls to come.

Good bowling everyone.
