The Latimer Cup for 1-8 year bowlers was held at Browns Bay on Sunday with 20 teams from across North Harbour.
Mairangi Bay had three teams entered, the maximum we were allowed.
Please find a report from each of the teams about their day, from Glenda, Rosemary and Michael.
The team of Steve Bartley, Queenie DeLaCroix, Christine Tordeich and Glenda Rountree played four matches of 12 ends …
W – 9-7 against Sunnybrae
L – 10-12 against Orewa
L – 7-10 against Hobsonville
W – 11-8 against Manly.
Losing the 2 games on the last end!! What an awesome effort considering three of the team have only played at MBC and this was their first competition at another club.
Once again a well organised tournament by Browns Bay and on 9/8 the Sorrill Cup will be played at Browns Bay.
Our team was Flora Macdonald, Bill Lowe, Graeme Storey and Rosemary Nicol.
It was a day of 4 seasons!! Rain, wind, sun & it was cold, but a well-run Tournament which we all enjoyed although pleased when it was over so we could retire into the warmth of the clubrooms.
We won 3 out of 4 games which was pleasing but unfortunately missed out by a few points in the prizes.
We won against Hobbie, Mahurangi & Browns Bay & lost to Manly.
A good team effort with everyone contributing throughout the day.
A special thanks to our many Mairangi Bay supporters who came out to cheer us on & brave the cold!
Michael Thomas, Julie Chhour, Jodie Cottier and Graeme McGregor.
We had 2 wins
First up was Luke’s Orewa team, a close game throughout but ended up dropping some big ends in the latter half of the match
Second match was against Warkworth, we were settled and warmed up and got into our stride and didn’t look back
3rd match was against the Liam Staines Sunnybrae team another one where everyone played their roles perfectly and strolled on for the win
Last up was the Allan Mcquoid Orewa team, needing a 2 to draw in the final end Jodie drawing the first shot needing one to draw, I couldn’t roll their only bowl off the head so we lost by 1 with a bowl to spare.
Had enough ends to claim 2nd if we could have gotten that 3rd win.
1st & 2nd prizes went to Hobsonville teams & 3rd prize was won by Orewa.
The next event is the Sorrill cup on Sunday August 9th.
We were missing one of our bowlers on Sunday. Glyn Taylor he was down to play in Rosemary’s team.
Glyn had a major operation on Monday this week .
Glyn on behalf of all your 1-8 bowling mates and all Mairangi Bay members, we all wish you and Lynda all the best in your recovery and cannot wait to see you back on our bowling greens.
Take care, see you soon! Alan Daniels
