There has been some difficulty in finding a day/time to complete the Men’s 1st Year Singles final: heaps of other events and rain just kept getting in the way.  The skies cleared at 20 past noon on Monday and the two Ricks took to the rink to sort out this year’s title for a trophy that dates back to 1949.

Rick George (Red bowls) got out of the blocks quicker than Rick Dixon (Blue bowls) with 3 in each of the first two ends and then another 3 in the sixth end, however Blue bowl Rick pegged away in the other ends and after 8 ends the score was 9 all.  Another spurt by Red bowl Rick took the score to 16-10 after 12 ends and 17-12 after 14 ends.  But hold the phone, here comes Blue bowls Rick, levelling the score after 18 ends at 17 all.

This is the battle the crowd of spectators was anticipating!!!!

20 ends and 19-17 to Red bowl Rick and with a 2 a 1 and a 1 on the next three ends, Blue bowl Rick takes out the title 21 – 19.

Congratulations Rick Dixon.  Your name is added to the trophy that includes some of our most advanced players.  And well played both of you.  There is a strong bowls future ahead for both of you.
