The men’s and women’s handicap pairs were played over the weekend.

As per the previous weekend we could only play on the carpet green.

This time the women had the Saturday and the men the Sunday to play qualifying.

Ten teams were entered in the women and thirteen in the men.

Both days were dry, warm but windy.

Highlight of the Saturday was the win in qualifying of the two relative newbies in, Queenie de la Croix and Christine Tordeich.

Yes they both had a 9 handicap each, giving them an 18 handicap against an experienced side that had a total of a 5 handicap, meaning a 13 shot advantage to start.

Queenie and Christine  won 8 of the eighteen ends and every time their opposition got close they won a couple of ends to keep in front and win 30-28, despite giving away a three in each of the last three ends.

Well done Queenie and Christine for entering the event and I’m sure that win made it worthwhile. (see photo below ).

The next big event for them is the Bays cup on Labour day.

The top four in the women’s were:

Sheryl Wellington and Robyn Pittams

Lorna Donald and Muy Chhour

Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers

Joy Watkinson and Geraldine Wight.

Colleen and Theresa played Joy Watkinson and Geraldine Wight in the first semi-final on Sunday morning, looking for revenge after their first round loss to Joy and Geraldine.

Revenge they got, it was close early on but then Colleen and Theresa pulled away for a big win 24-8.

Sheryl and Robyn and Lorna and Muy  both had had three wins in qualifying.

They played their semi-final on Monday morning between the showers, with Sheryl and Robyn coming out the winners 24-21 in a close game.

The final will be played on Monday 20th probably in the morning.

Men’s Handicap Pairs.

With thirteen teams entered in the men’s, it meant that we had a bye in each round.

There were some close games in the search for being in the top four.
