The National women’s Champ of Champs triples were held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Representing North Harbour was our Mairangi Bay team of: Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill and Colleen Rice.

Playing at New Lynn bowling club, our team needed three wins from four games.

They did not start well on Friday, losing the first game to Kahutia 11-19.

They now needed three wins from three, with a tough game next against a strong Auckland side, Mt Albert.

Mairangi Bay started well leading the Mt Albert side early and then edged away for a strong win 19-12.

Saturday, first up was Northend, they had a win and a loss on Friday, as well.

Our team led by three with two ends to go. Unfortunately they dropped a two in both of those end to lose by one, 18-19, oh so close.

In their fourth game, they played Hawera and had a convincing win, 15-4.

Very close, but they did not qualify for the finals.

It was a top effort, in a very difficult event.

The Kamo club from Whangarei defeated Kaikoura 20-13 in the final.

In the men’s event final, Aramaho, skipped by the legendary Peter Bellis defeated Mt Manganui 12-8.
