Hi everyone, the new season (2023/2024) is about to start.

My wife believes there is no difference between Summer and Winter seasons, they all just roll into one another!!  😊

We have eight 1st year bowlers joining us this year which is fantastic to see.
Women:  Barbara Irving, Christine Tordeich, Debbie Coffey and Helen Bartley.
Men:  Allan Jury, Garry Coffey, Joe Tordeich and Ross Hunter.

Your challenge is to try and master the game of bowls, good luck to you in that endeavour.

Joining us as a year 7 bowler is Pat Smith from Northcote Bowls Club. Welcome Pat.

Also joining us are four senior women (in bowling terms), Pat’s wife, Jill Smith from Northcote, Irene Donaldson from Browns Bay Bowls Club, and Elaine McClintock and Kerin Roberts both from Orewa Bowls Club. Welcome to you all.

These players will add more depth and experience to our Women’s teams.

The following players move out of 1–5 year players and into 6-8 year players – Gaye Horne, Ian McGovern and Hanaan Shahwan.

The following players leave the 6-8 year bowlers and officially become Seniors – Phill Chisholm, Russell Parkinson, Garth Partridge, David Payne, Kevin Robertson and David Tripp.

A special shout-out to a number of our people:

Our greenkeeper, Hamish Russell who does a great job. We have excellent greens, and trust they will play well after so much rain over our last summer and winter.
Mayfair green will be available for the Handicap pairs on Oct 7/8 and Avida on Tuesday 10th October.

Our club captains – Phyl Humphries and Barry McCrystal. You can talk to them at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Our fully qualified coaches – Ian Coombe and Theresa Rogers.

Our Match and Tournament committee teams captained by Gerd Hutcheson, Theresa Rogers and David Pearse.

Our Umpires – Jean Ashby, Sheryl Wellington, Lorna Donald and Gerd Hutcheson.

Our Selectors – Alan Daniels (Convenor), Leon Wech, Colleen Rice, Sheryl Wellington and Allan Langley.  You will need to impress these selectors (or pay them) to make our selected teams 😊.

The new season officially starts this coming Saturday 23rd September 2023.  There will be a small ceremony at 1.00pm and then a roll-up at 1.15pm followed by a free sausage sizzle and a complimentary drink around 4pm.  This will include the prize-giving for the Winter Haggle league.

Please enter online. Please dress in whites.

The weather forecast is not looking good. We will still go ahead with the sausage sizzle, drink and prize-giving if the roll-up is cancelled.

Copies of handbook will be available.  The handbook has all details of events for the year.  This is your bowls bible, no excuse to say you did not know an event was happening, highlight the events you are keen to play and enter online.

We will advise on the website if there is any change to the programme.

You should have paid your subscription fee by now, if not please arrange to do this, you need to be fully paid up to play in our club championships.

For club uniforms contact Sandra Coombe –  Sandra@coombe.net.nz.

For all first-year bowlers, the club provides use of our club bowls for three months after that you will need to purchase your own set of bowls.  This applies to any full membership bowler using club bowls.

We are a volunteer organisation, so if you are interested in helping out in some way, just let a member of the board know.

The club rooms will be operational from this Saturday, they are looking fantastic, there will be some areas not fully finished but we hope you enjoy the new look.

It has not been an easy job, with new issues appearing regularly as the renovation progressed.

A big thank you to the project team headed up by John Smith team that managed the renovation.

Have a great 2023/2024 bowling season, here`s hoping we will actually have a summer this season and the rain stays away.

May your bowls go where you expect them to!!!

Wrong biases are a gold coin donation to Hospice.
