The NHB Women’s singles were held at Milford over the weekend.
We had five Mairangi Bay bowlers entered.
Julie Chhour, Jodie Cottier, Colleen Rice, Theresa Rogers and Elaine McClintock.
Julie lost her first game but then beat Helen Briant from Manly and Judy Smith from Birkenhead.
She missed out on qualifying on differential.
Jodie won all her three games to top the section.
Colleen had a good win over Connie Mathieson, lost her next, then won her last but did not qualify.
Theresa had two big wins but went down to Millie Nathan 21-14 in her last game and missed qualifying.
Elaine struggled early in her first game but came back to win 21-16. She then defeated a New Zealand rep, Leanne Poulson 21-18 and then Wendy Jensen 21-16,
to qualify top.
In the quarter-finals, Jodie lost to Helen Briant from Manly 18-19 in a very close game. Oh so close and well done Jodie.
Elaine defeated Lin East from Browns Bay 21-13.
Semi-final, Elaine lost to Mille Nathan 21-7. Another top effort by Elaine.
Millie went on to win the final against Lisa Dickson 21-19.
The NHB Men’s pairs, were also held over the weekend , section play at various clubs and finals at Milford.
Mairangi Bay had three teams competing, Barry Baillie and Graeme McGregor, Phil Chisholm and David Payne and Gerry Strydom and Bruce McClintock.
Barry and Graeme, played at Birkenhead and came up against some strong teams.
They lost all three games but gained a ton of experience.
Phil and David, won their first two games but lost their third to a very strong Birkenhead team.
Gerry and Bruce, won their first two games but lost their third, they qualified top on differential.
They won their first round of post section against Hobsonville 17-12.
In their quarter-final they faced Colin Rogan and John Walker going down 19-5. Still a top effort to get so far.
The final was won by Neil Fisher and Lloyd Sinton defeating Wynne Grey and Bevan Smith 22-12.
