The Bowls North Harbour 1-5 Year Interclub competition took place last weekend at Browns Bay Bowling Club under lovely blue skies.

Mairangi had two teams competing unfortunately only The Stingrays were able to proceed to Post Section play. The Sharks were hampered by a bye situation which awarded 9 points to each team who had a bye and it was interesting to note that all the teams who had the bye went through to Post Section play. (editor comment – not all teams that had the bye round qualified for post section play.)

Stuart McKay played pairs for the Stingrays and won two games, the pairs team of Rick Dixon and Julie Chhour had a mixed day,  however the triples team of Bill Lowe, Roger Potter and Jim Center played well to get the team to Post Section play. They were drawn against the Birkenhead Stingers in the first round and although they lost all three games they acquitted themselves admirably.

Apart from the problem with the bye The Sharks had to play some of the toughest teams in the competition. Graeme McGregor although losing all his games had to play 3 of the top singles players in the competition and played extremely well going down in some close games. Glenda Rountree and Hannan Shawan had two wins and the triples team of Gaye Horne, Rosemary Nicol and Flora McDonald had three wins but not enough points to go into Post Section play

A disappointing overall result however the standard of play was exceptionally high and it was good experience for all who took part.

Congratulations to Helensville Snappers who beat Browns Bay Junior Tigers in the final
