Yes what a weekend!!!

In the Women’s Division 1, our Mairangi Bay Pearls recorded a three-peat of wins in the event at Birkenhead.

In the A/C Division 2 our Mairangi Bay Stingrays won the title.

In the Men’s Division 1, our Mairangi Bay Sharks, topped their section and will play semi-finals this coming Saturday at Browns Bay.

Our Women’s team was:

Fours- Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill, Jodie Cottier and Theresa Rogers.

Pairs – Colleen Rice  and Julie Chhour.

Singles –Elaine McClintock.

Many thanks to Robyn Pittams who was our marker for both days.

The Pearls beat Birkenhead, Manly and Orewa in section play and topped section.

In the semi-final they played Mahurangi East who finished second in the other section.

The Pearls came out winners 4-1.

In the other semi-final Takapuna who topped their section played Birkenhead. In an exciting match, Takapuna won the singles but Birkenhead won both the pairs and the fours which were both very close, to take the win.

Final: Mairangi Pearls V Birkenhead.

The Pearls won the fours and the singles to take the match 4-1 and the title yet again.

Well done to them, especially, Jodie who is only in her second year and Julie who is in her fifth year.

The team now go on to the National finals to be held in Wellington on April 9th to 12th.

Our A/C Division 2 teams played at Mairangi Bay on Saturday and Milford on Sunday.

Our teams were:

Stingrays : Division 2.

Fours – Ian Coombe, Larry Cain, Barry Baillie, and Rosemary Nicol.  Barry McCrystal replaced Barry Baillie on the Sunday.

Pairs – Peter Orgias  and Lorna Donald.

Pairs – Glenda Rountree  and Judi Farkash.

Dolphins: Division 2.

Fours – Glyn Taylor, Arthur Beale, Tony Stanaway and Graeme Storey.

Pairs –  Geraldine Wight and Joy Watkinson.

Pairs –  Flora Macdonald and Hanaan Shahwan.

The Dolphins, finished second in their section having had two wins so qualified for finals day.

They played Warkworth in that quarter-final but lost all three games. Not playing as well as they had done on Saturday.

The fours lost by 1, 15-16, Geraldine and Joy were down 12-0 early but clawed back for a 17 all draw. They then had to play an extra end to determine a winner which they unfortunately lost.

In the other pairs, Flora and Hanaan went down 11-22.

The Stingrays, had two wins but the last win was officially recorded as a loss and they very fortunate to still finish second in their section on differential.

They played a strong Birkenhead in the quarter-final which went down to the wire.

The fours had won and one of the pairs had lost but Peter and Lorna held on to a close win to take the match win.

In the semi-final they had a convincing 5-0 win over Browns Bay.

The fours had another good win and Glenda and Judi nailed a close win 15-14 and Peter and Lorna also had a good win.

The Final was another strong performance with a 4-1 win over Hobsonville.

The fours had a big win as did Peter and Lorna with Glenda and Judi losing their game, but it did not matter as the Mairangi Bay Stingrays were Division 2 winners.

Well done to the Stingrays.

The Men were split into two sections with the top two in each section to qualify for semi-finals.

Men.

Sharks: Division 1.

Fours – Leon Wech, Michael Thomas, Allan Langley and Bruce McClintock.  Brian Rogers replaced Gordon Jenkins (injured) on Sunday with Michael Thomas playing the singles.

Pairs  – Phill Chisholm and David Payne.

Singles –  Gordon Jenkins.

On  Saturday they had a 5-0 win over Browns Bay, 4-1 win over Beachhaven and a draw with Warkworth.

On the Sunday they defeated Mahurangi East 4-1 and had a strong win over Riverhead 4-1.

Phil and David won all their games which was most impressive, Gordon had an excellent win over the NZ singles champion Matt Berry.

Michael Thomas made his debut as an interclub singles bowler for Mairangi Bay winning his first game on Sunday then losing his next.

The Sharks will most likely play Takapuna or Orewa in Saturday’s semi-final.

That game will start at 11.00am. Supporters will be most welcome.

Many thanks to Graeme McCgregor on Saturday and Bruce Aley on Sunday for marking.

Also many thanks to all the supporters that turned up at the different veues.
