Great Western Showdown – Glen Eden Bowling Club
report from Barry 2 gun Baillie
The Mairangi Bay team of Graeme Storey, Jodi Cottier and Barry Baillie took part in the Great Western Showdown, a tournament for players with 1–3 years’ experience, held at the Glen Eden Bowling Club.
It was a miserable old day weather-wise – wet and cold – but play carried on without delay and, despite the conditions, it turned out to be a really enjoyable day for all involved.
We had good wins in the morning, beating teams from Royal Oak and Rocky Nook. In the afternoon, we had a tight game against Carlton – it was all even going into the last end, but full credit to Carlton who played some brilliant bowls to get the win. Every member of our team contributed strongly throughout the day, and we finished on a high with a solid win over Papakura.
A big thank you to the Glen Eden club for their warm welcome and hospitality – and for putting on a generous lunch for all the teams.
