A steamy fog rose off the shelters at Glen Eden Bowls Club and a heavy dew covered the new carpet green as three cowgirls from Mairangi Bay Bowls wheeled their saddle bags into the Great Western Showdown on Sunday 16 June.
The sun reflected strongly off the dew as Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, and Julie (Typhoid Mary was off sick) shook hands with the opposition from the host club. It was a good game and the visiting team won. Yee hah.
Hot cheese scones, hot drinks for morning tea fortified us for the next game which was a bit tougher against a team from Howick but we were competitive – however not even Annies best leading efforts produced a win.
Hamburgers with chips were served in the upstairs dining area where we had pretty views over the clubs spacious grounds and set us up for the next game against a Mahurangi team where we played well but didn’t win.
Continuing the theme we played well in our last game but just dipped out to a lovely team from Whangarei as rain started to fall.
Thank you for the opportunity Glen Eden as 1-3 yr competitions are rare but Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, and Julie (replacing Typhoid Mary) have hung up their lariats, stetsons and whips as it is the last competition we can enter in this category.
