A glorious sunny, windless day of three bowl triples was enjoyed by a full field of 18 teams, although it was obvious at the pre-start briefing that three bowls is not everyone’s favourite format for triples. I like to vary the format – it was two bowls the last time we played, so three bowls this week.
You had to have three wins and a draw or better to be in the major prize money this week, so unfortunately the several three winners missed out.
First, the only four winner, was Laraine Moore, Lorna Donald and Bruce Aley (who, thanks to a certain skip’s last bowl of the third game, were very lucky to have four wins and not join the three and a half winners).
It was really close for second and third, with two teams each having three wins and a draw and 18 ends, so it came down to points for.
Second, with 40 points for was Peter Orgias, Gordon Jenkins and Allan Langley.
Third, with 30 points for was Larry Cain, Gerry Strydom and Graeme McGregor.
It was similarly close for the daily prize, with 6 teams having two consecutive wins, two of them having 13 ends in those two wins, so again it came down to points for. The winner, with an impressive 29 points for in those two games was Evan Thomas, Bevan Smith and Ian Hardie.
Lucky dip went to Rachel Long, Flora MacDonald and Graeme Storey (who helped each of the three prize winning teams).
As usual, thanks to all those who helped in so many ways, make the day successful and enjoyable.
