Winter cup bonus fours continued last Friday, on a wet and windy day.
The women had the luxury of playing under cover at Orewa while the men struggled on, in the horrible conditions at both Browns Bay and Warkworth.
Results for the second week:
Women.
Pearls: Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers. They defeated Glenda’s team 20-17 and defeated Orewa 34-13.
They topped their section and have a bye next and they then play Manly who currently sit second in the section.
Mermaids: Elaine McClintock, Kerin Roberts, Hanaan Shahwan and Rosemary Nicol. They had a win against Manly 21-13 and a lost to Hobsonville 15-17.
They sit equal second in their section and they play Milford and Orewa and will need to win both and hope Takapuna lose at least one of their games.
Dolphins: Glenda Rountree, Flora Macdonald, Jo Baxter and Joy Watkinson. They lost to Sheryl’s team 17-20 and defeated Warkworth 22-17. They play the bottom placed Mahurangi team and the fourth placed Birkenhead team and will need to win both.
They all play two games this Friday 18th July starting at 9.30am. The winners of each of the two sections play a final.
All our teams are in the running but they do need results to go their way to qualify.
At this stage they will be playing at Hobsonville.
Men.
They played the final two rounds of section play.
Sharks: David Payne, Phil Chisholm, Gordon Jenkins and Allan Langley. Won their first game against Browns Bay 26-9 and in a game against Birkenhead to decide who topped the section and who finished second, they lost 6-16.
Marlins: Leon Wech, Gerry Strydom, John Lindsay and Graeme McGregor. They defeated Garry Bank’s Beachhaven team 27-20 and did not play the second game as they had already qualified top of the section.
Well done to both teams qualifying for the knockout final.
Phil Chisholm’s team play an undefeated Mahurangi team while Leon’s team plays Browns Bay.
Play will start at 9.30 this Friday 18th July. All finals are at Browns Bay.
Good bowling to all our teams and supporters very welcome, dress warmly.
