The Champ of Champ men and women pairs were held over the weekend.
The women played at Waimauku and the men Mahurangi East, with all finals at Waimauku on Sunday.
The weather was very kind and provided good bowling conditions.
Out teams were: Elaine McClintock and Kerin Roberts and Gerry Strydom and Bruce McClintock.
Elaine and Kerin started their first day well with a strong win over Hobsonville 20-10.
Their quarter-final was next against an experienced Helensville team but they came through with a win 17-13.
Day 2 – their semi-final was against the favoured Wellsford team of Wendy Jensen and Jeni Hart.
The Wellsford team proved too strong winning 19-11.
Wellsford went on to win the final defeating Judy McSweeney and Valarie Taylor from Orewa 24-9.
Well done Elaine and Kerin for getting to the semi-finals.
Gerry and Bruce had a bye in round 1.
Round 2, they defeated a strong Birkenhead team of Damon Pierson and Nick Cape 20-10.
Quarter-final, they defeated an Omaha team 17-16 by the skin of their teeth.
Day 2 – semi-final, they were up against a very strong Riverhead team and previous winners, Grant Goodwin and Gordon Smith.
This was a game that ebbed and flowed with all four bowlers playing excellent bowls, Mairangi Bay came out the winners 16-15, another nail biter.
Final, they were up again Neil Fisher one of North Harbours premier bowlers along with a promising 1-5 year bowler Lloyd Sinton, a disabled bowler who uses a bowling arm.
Lloyd was very accurate right from the start and Bruce and Gerry struggled to get into the game going down 10-24.
Neil and Lloyd deserved their win but what a top effort by the Mairangi Bay lads who beat some very good teams.
Triples are up next, this coming weekend with both men and women playing at Hobsonville.
