It was a beautiful autumn afternoon for our annual Anzac Day tournament attended by over 30 members who, after giving respect to the observance of the day led by Mr David Hutcheson, had three games of bowls in outstanding conditions. The varied nature of the competition for each of the three rounds kept players on their toes and when it came time for the spider web competition half of the field were a little slow to take part. It was quick and fast. At the end of the afternoon a few convivial drinks were taken up by the members as they waited for the prize giving or the dinner or both!!

Prizes were distributed to over half of the entrants so there was something in it for most. In the overall competition between the forces of Australian led and New Zealand led platoon members, the New Zealanders prevailed amassing 682 points in the afternoon to the Australian members 606 so that called for chocolates all around to the successful battle ground members.

The individual prizes started with Grant Watson the winner of the Australian section with 62 points followed by Helen Aley with 53 points and then Roger Potter with 52 points. The New Zealand leader was Russell Parkinson also with 62 points followed by Steve McGregor with 58 Points and Norm Clark with 56 points. The prize list continued with a number of others sharing the prizes. The spider web competition was won by Peter Orgias who also picked up the prize for the male with the lowest score on the day.

As usual the Chinese meal followed for most who stayed to enjoy the end of the day. Thank you to those who stayed to clean up – we cannot do without you!!!
