Last Friday was the final day of qualifying for the Interclub Pennants.
Both the Stingrays and the Sharks topped their section after the first day of qualifying.
The Sharks defeated Browns Bay 8-2 in round 4.
They then defeated Milford 8-2 putting them with an unassailable lead on 44 points with Milford the next on 21.
Round 6 was not played as they could not be caught.
The Sharks very consistent over the two days and it was a very comprehensive win.
Phil, Mike and Theresa stood out with five wins out of five and notably, Leon and Gordon had their first loss in two seasons of pennants and I believe it was not Brian’s fault,.
The Stingrays defeated Orewa 9-1 in round 4, and with a bye in round 5 they had an unassailable lead, at least they thought!!
They lost to Riverhead in 7-3 in round 6 giving them the overall win by 5 points. It was initially declared that the victory was by 1 point only, however after a protest by the Stingrays it was established that the points for the bye in round 5 had not been added to the Stingrays score and the final score was corrected to 36-31.
To beat the Stingrays, Riverhead had to beat them 10-0 which would have given them the overall win by 1 point however they failed to do so.
Special mention to Ian, Hanaan and Rosemary who won four out of four.
What a performance to qualify two teams for the finals.
Well done to all those players that put their names down, 21 in total, which enabled the selectors to offer BNH the option of a second team, which they took up.
