So, the following morning the third qualifying round was played, resulting in 5 teams qualifying. Unfortunately that forces a bye in the first round, where Kerin and Priscilla beat Colleen and Jeanette, being down 18-20, getting a 3 in the last end, winning with 21-20!
The Women’s Handicap Pairs was played on the weekend of 7th and 8th of October.
We had 8 teams:
Colleen Rice (0)/Jeanette Orgias (5)
Rosemary Nicol (3)/Annie McGrath (6)
Kerin Roberts (1)/Priscilla Page (4)
Gaye Horne (0)/Sherril Watson (4)
Irene Donaldson (2)/Flora Macdonald
Jan Gledhill (0)/Glenda Rountree (3)
Sheryl Wellington (0)/Julie Chhour (5)
Elaine McClintock(0)/Marie Cooper (4)
On Saturday, although the weather reports were all dodgy, we managed to get 2 rounds in, before the sky opened. By then there was one 2 winner, Elaine and Marie, six teams with 1 win and one team with 0 wins.
Unfortunately, by then Priscilla’s injured hand put a stop to any more play and they had to default, giving Gaye and Sherril a place in the final.
At the same time Sheryl and Julie were playing Elaine and Marie, winning with 23-13, becoming finalists against Gaye and Sherril. A few showers didn’t stop this becoming a great game with a very exciting final. Being quite even for most of the game, Gaye and Sheryl, being 2 down for the last end, managed to get a 3, claiming the win. Well done and congratulations!
Congratulations to all and thank you for taking part and a special thank you to the 3 that filled in at the last minute.
The more entries we get, the better the tournament. So I hope we get a good number of entries for Hcp Singles this coming weekend, 14/15 October.
